Autumn Talks: Bill McGuire

BILL McGUIRE: The Fate of the World. A History and Future of the Climate Crisis
Tuesday November 3rd, 6.30-8.30pm Unitarian Church, Emmanuel Road, Cambridge
Eventbrite invitation here.
Those who came to Bill’s talk on the launch of his previous book - Hothouse Earth - will know that he is uncompromising in his warnings about what a parlous state we are in. His new book The Fate of the World relates our current climate emergency to earlier geological epochs and concludes that we are hurtling towards the hotter extremes, at an unprecedented rate. He predicts a narrow margin of time (and maybe hope) in which we can act preventatively and radically to evade the worst consequences, but that there is no room for cul-de-sacs involving vast sums of money to be spent on the quick fixes and fantasies of geoengineering, and other business-as-usual.
