Midsummer Celebration of the Rights of the River Cam

Join us for our 6th Declaration of the Rights of the River Cam and our dedication to defend the river, which will be collectively read at 6pm on Jesus Green on Sunday 21st June 2026. We will be located between the kiosk/footbridge and the tennis courts. The event will start at 4.30 with art activities and river music and the programme will begin at 5pm. Friends of the Cam will review the threats to the river and local campaigns, and we are very pleased to welcome Peter Hammond, one of the the two campaigners from the River Windrush, whose indefatigable work to reveal the levels of damage to their local river by the water companies and the Environment Agency was the basis for the recent TV drama ‘Dirty Business’. Other speakers include Elisabeth Spain from the People’s Emergency Briefing on Nature and Climate, and Tony Eva of Logan’s Meadow.
The Cambridge Climate Choir, Earthsong Choir, and LeftyMenSing, will be singing and there will be opportunities to join in. There will be readings from Rebecca Stonehill, and from Miranda with Dulcimer accompaniment from Lyra.
We have wonderful music from Lila and The Opera Trio; Monkey Shanti; 4 Tunes Friends; and Gulseven Medar and Cambridge Voices of Anatolia. The evening will conclude, as before, with the rousing and fantastic Frida Violetta Band. Bring your dancing shoes, your voices and your picnics, and we look forward to seeing you there!
